deskop file to reflect the full path to theĪrduino-ide.appimage file you should see some evidenc of it on your Gnome desktop. O after renaming the arduino-ide file to arduino-ide.appimage The classic IDE installation copies a ".desktop" file into the ~/Desktop directory Note that the error message produced by the reproduction instructions above is currently different than described due to a recent regression in Arduino CLI: IDE users are even less likely to be familiar with this acronym, and even less anxious to spend their time learning what it means, since the it is not otherwise a part of the IDE user experience. Please select your Arduino board from the **Tools > Board** menu.Įven among Arduino CLI users, I have found that the concept of "FQBN" is not widely known. Select **Sketch > Verify/Compile** from the Arduino IDE menus. The board/port selector menu should show "**:x: No board selected**".ġ. This step is done because the IDE currently makes it otherwise difficult for those with internal serial ports to achieve the required state of having no port selected, due to the odd fallback port selection behavior (e.g., ). ~/Library/Application Support/arduino-ide/ ![]() Simulate a fresh install by deleting the configuration folder: This doesn't mean anything to even very advanced IDE users, and the user will have difficulty understanding what they need to do to resolve it.ġ. If they attempt to compile a sketch without selecting one, they will receive only this cryptic error message:Ĭompilation error: Missing FQBN (Fully Qualified Board Name)Įrror: Request compile failed with message: Compilation error: Missing FQBN (Fully Qualified Board Name) A ne … w user may not realize it is necessary to select one. I don't have any problems with the rate of the compilation output. The upload tool output to be displayed in the output pane at approximately the same speed as when using it from the command line. □ The output from the upload tool slowly streams in to the output pane for seconds after the actual upload has finished. Upload a sketch to an AVR board, megaAVR board (upload tool is AVRDUDE), or the "Programming Port" of a Zero (upload tool is OpenOCD).įor some reason, I don't have the problem when uploading to a board that uses bossac as the upload tool (e.g., the "Native Serial" port of the Zero). Check the box next to "**Show verbose output during: upload**"ġ. Select **File > Preferences** from the Arduino IDE menus.ġ. There seems to be some significant bottleneck in the communication stream between the tool and the Pro IDE's output pane.ġ. □ The rate of the output from the upload tool shown when … verbose upload output is enabled in the preferences is very slow. I'll have to do a reload and see how for I get - maybe next month when hopefully things may have been improved. Well - it was OK while it lasted - with the major problem of it wanting more screen than I have - it ran off of the bottom on my screen - 768 vertical resolution. json files in ~/.arduinoIDE - I removed reference to the samba share is several files but my IDE is dead. I looked around for preferences.txt but only found some. ![]() Now today the IDE just hangs up looking for the previous sketch or library or something. I did have this IDE working yesterday - I seem to have made the mistake of loading a sketch from my other computer via a samba share. but you still can't add the IDE to the favourites in the dock. **** A suggestion for the Linux version *** Changing the name to arduino-ide.appimage solves this problem. If you double double-click on arduino-ide from the file manager Ubuntu does not know how to open it. Ubuntu is getting more and more like Windows - it pays some attention to file extensions.
